About me
Michael Thomas Essad – Scenic Designer -Technical DirectorI have worked as a Technical Director and Scenic Designer for over thirty years. I have been the Technical Director, Adjunct Faculty and Resident Scenic Designer for the Pittsburgh Playhouse and Point Park University since 2005. Other recent technical direction credits include three years as Technical Director at the Pittsburgh Public Theater, six years at the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami Florida where I have sent several shows to Broadway. I have also spent five years as Technical Director for California Shakespeare Festival. Other production credits include the Berkeley Repertory Theater, Actors Playhouse in Miami, San Jose Repertory Company and the California Theater Center in Sunnyvale Ca. One of the highlights of my career was being a production supervisor for the Super Bowl 29 half time show. I have also served as the Technical Advisor for both Squonk Opera and the National Aviary.
I have been a set designer for over eighty shows in Pittsburgh, Miami and Berkeley.
As a resident scenic designer for Point Park University I have created over forty shows.
In 2014 I designed a production of Lady Windermere’s Fan and Macbeth for Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theater. I have also designed Contact at the Asolo Theater in Sarasota Florida.
I also design and build furniture for theatrical productions and the private sector as well.
