About me
I have been involved in the performing arts for over 25 years in schools, universities, and professional theaters. My theatrical experience covers a wide range of disciplines, as summarized below. As the Production Manager for the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, I organize, facilitate, and supervise over 200 performances and events per year. In so doing I work with a variety of collaborators— from the Managing Director and Building Maintenance Manager of the facility, to IATSE department heads and crews, to county administrators and commissioners. In addition to creating and maintaining cost estimates for SMDCAC-produced and co-produced events, I also work with external clients renting our venues and equipment for their own productions. After consulting with the Rental Manager, Education Manager, and the clients themselves, I balance their artistic concepts with their monetary capabilities and timeline; always striving to facilitate a production that exceeds their expectations without exceeding their budget. I then move onto scheduling staff, contracting additional labor, and supervising productions and events as they occur (as a Stage Supervisor, Technical Director, and/ or Stage Manager when necessary). I also budget for upgrades to the facility, interview and train new employees, and tour potential clients through six unique performance spaces.
In my position with the Jenkins Dance and Gymnastics Center, I work with students and adults of varied theatrical competencies to produce an annual dance recital. I search local rental houses for cost effective equipment, build and repair scenery, supervise the setup of the sound system and playback of audio cues, design the lighting, and conduct the live band.
As the Specialist, Technical Recruiter/Scheduler, Entertainment with Royal Caribbean Cruises, I scheduled the management and crew for 50 theatrical venues across 25 ships, interviewed potential employees, and acted as training liaison with Flying by Foy. Additionally, I conducted promotional interviews, planned and staffed company appearances at entertainment/ theatre conferences, made college recruitment visits, and organized college trips to ships in the fleet in order to grow the recruiting pool.
While earning my Masters Degree at New York University, I worked with undergraduate and graduate students, training them to be theatrical designers, operators, and administrators. Working with these students helped me realize my passion for helping people achieve their career goals through teaching, training, and hands-on experience.
