About me
I graduated from Central School of Speech and Drama in 2005 having studied my BA in Theatre Practice Prop Making. Between 2005 and 2008 I worked as a freelance prop maker/ props master for numerous companies and as a prop maker/scenic artist for several theatre companies on their productions. Working as a freelancer allowed me to practice and develop my skill base as a professional prop maker and utilize my talent in this area of expertise.I also harboured a strong ambition to work in an educational setting, imparting knowledge and learning for students and aspiring practitioners, aiding their development and education was an area I was keen to explore. I got the chance to realise this ambition in 2008 when I was successfully recruited as Props Lecturer, Head of Props at East 15 Acting School. Forming an integral part of the University of Essex BA Stage Management and Technical Theatre Course the BA Prop Making Pathway, of which I had sole responsibility, enabled me to develop, write, deliver and teach a high quality specialised course prioritising the students development through practical learning, workshops, lectures and master-classes.
During my employment at East 15 my position developed and expanded to include the responsibility for the construction and scenic art pathways. This development enabled me to explore, create and deliver additional specialism’s equipping students with the necessary skills they desire to thrive in a multi-diverse industry. I worked closely with the students on in house and touring productions and was responsible for production scheduling and supporting technical fit ups and builds at various venues.
I have always tried to ensure that my own practical skills and knowledge are current and relevant and I have been committed to my own personal development and continued learning. I have experience working in a fast paced environment and managing a varied busy workload.
I am a very committed individual who works well independently and within a team environment and I can demonstrate the ability to prioritise tasks, liaise across departments and importantly continue to learn and develop myself and my skill base.
