Question 1: What is the most rewarding aspect of working as a Company Stage Manager?
Being part of each project and building up good working relationships with your company
 
Question 2: What are the key skills required to be an effective Company Stage Manager?
being able to listen, stay calm and a very good sense of humour
 
Question 3: Do you see your role as a natural step on a career ladder, and if so what is the next rung?
hopefully my next step would be to move into Admin or producing
 
Question 4: How did you work your way into your current role?
I worked my way up from ASM DSM Etc, in many different types of theatre throughout the country
 
Question 5: How much do you think networking helps towards landing a job in the industry?
Completely the whole industry is about who you know, and making contacts
 
Question 6: Do you think you will be working in the industry in the next five years, and if so in what capacity?
hopefully I will but not sure in what capacity
 
Question 7: Please describe what a typical day working as a Company Stage Manager might contain?
looking after the welfare of a company dealing with any problems or issues, petty cash, dealing with designers and directors and time managing my SM team
 
Question 8: Have you done any additional training courses to further your career?
Several, it is vital to keep up to date on all areas of then job including Health and Safety, Equity policies etc
 
Question 9: How important is working for free at the beginning of your career?
not at all, free work is an insult to 3 years training and belittles the role of a Stage Manager
