Question 1: What is the most rewarding aspect of working as a Technician?
Seeing ideas realised on stage whether that be in a small scale auditorium or a large arena
 
Question 2: What are the key skills required to be an effective Technician?
being able to effectively carry out the requests of the engineer, being able to diagnose problems quickly
 
Question 3: Do you see your role as a natural step on a career ladder, and if so what is the next rung?
The next rung would be to become an engineer (for sound) or a director (for lighting)
 
Question 4: How did you work your way into your current role?
I started with work experience and was offered a job from there working along side other people until I had enough experience to work alone.
 
Question 5: How much do you think networking helps towards landing a job in the industry?
Networking plays a very big part in landing jobs in the industry. If you can get to know people that work for other companies it helps.
 
Question 6: Do you think you will be working in the industry in the next five years, and if so in what capacity?
I would like to think that I will still be working in the industry in the next five years. Hopefully in the capacity of tour technician/engineer.
 
Question 7: Please describe what a typical day working as a Technician might contain?
Early morning, late nights, load in, rehearsal.
 
Question 8: Have you done any additional training courses to further your career?
Not yet but I am hoping to do some lighting control based training in the near future.
 
Question 9: How important is working for free at the beginning of your career?
Very important. If you offer to work for free not only do you get the experience needed to progress but other people can see the sort of work you can do.
