Question 1: What is the most rewarding aspect of working as a Director?
Working with a actors and the creatives. Obviously an audience is a neccessity, but it's the process which is great.
 
Question 2: What are the key skills required to be an effective Director?
Patience and the ability to read other people and respond.
 
Question 3: Do you see your role as a natural step on a career ladder, and if so what is the next rung?
I started out as an actor, so yes it was a natural step for me, if not for all actors. Next is continious paid work. Oh the dream! :)
 
Question 4: How did you work your way into your current role?
Hard work and determination. Being prepared to just gain experience and learn from each job. You need to also make the right positive impression or else work disappears quickly.
 
Question 5: How much do you think networking helps towards landing a job in the industry?
Some times it's a bit too much about networking, but it a neccessitly to know something about who you are working with. Theatre/media is a small world.
 
Question 6: Do you think you will be working in the industry in the next five years, and if so in what capacity?
Yes, I'll still be directing. I just don't know if it will be just in this country.
 
Question 7: Please describe what a typical day working as a Director might contain?
There is not typical day. Which is one of the reasons I like it.It can be researching a play. It can be in a reheasa room working with a new play or it can be talking in a cafe about the next project.
 
Question 8: Have you done any additional training courses to further your career?
Yes I have because saying you can do something and having some training to back you up are two different things. Though you do learn on the job, but training gives you a kit bag of tools to use.
 
Question 9: How important is working for free at the beginning of your career?
I'm sorry to say it is impoetant,but I do wish it wasn't the case.Yes it shows dedication, but you also need to eat.
